Yesterday, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau released a report on debt collection after conducting a survey among consumers. You can read the entire report here. We were surprised by the fact that more than half of consumers who reported being contacted about a debt also reported that the debt was not theirs, was owed by a family member, or was for the wrong amount. Unfortunately, the survey also found that debt collectors continue to use threatening tactics and most people who are sued for a debt do not show up in court.
Our firm has successfully defended people who are being harassed or sued for a debt and, in some cases, have actually gotten money from the debt collector. The CFPB’s report shows that you are not alone!
